Gaithersburg’s Arts on the Green presents “Life in Color,” an exhibit featuring works by the Metro Washington Chapter of the Colored Pencil Society of America. The exhibit is on display November 22, 2019 through January 27, 2020. The public is invited to meet the artists during a free Artists Reception on Thursday, December 5, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Attendees are also invited to the Baltimore Watercolor Society artist reception, taking place on the same day and time at the adjacent Kentlands Mansion.
The theme for this exhibit is color, which surrounds us and affects our lives, emotions and experiences. Like other fine art media artists, colored pencil artists use color to not only define their own personal experiences but also to draw attention, create mood, and communicate information to the viewer. Artistic compositions may include people, places, nature, everyday objects, or abstract interpretations. Ordinary things can be turned into extraordinary works of art through the artist’s interpretation of color. This exhibit will also feature the ceramics of Sharon Jacobs.
The Metro Washington Chapter of the national Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) formed in 1994. Now with more than 50 members, the group’s goals parallel, on a regional basis, those of the national organization. The Society promotes the stature and awareness of colored pencil as a viable art form to professional art establishments and to the general public and provides a forum for education, communication, and recognition of colored pencil artists. Member artwork is shown in juried & non-juried exhibitions in a variety of venues in the metro region. Learn more at www.cpsa109.org.
Allen Bentley, a well-known figure painter and colorist who is an Adjunct Professor of Art at Montgomery College, juried this exhibit. He has exhibited nationally from coast to coast.
Please note that some of the artwork is for sale and all images are copyrighted by the artists.
