A Celtic Valentine

A Celtic Valentine

Presented by BlackRock Center for the Arts at BlackRock Center for the Arts

Come see Washington, D.C.’s award-winning Celtic ensemble, the OCEAN Celtic Quartet, in a program of traditional and original music celebrating romantic love, and casting their net even wider to include love of country, friends, and family. (There’ll be a lot of love in the room!) OCEAN’s soaring vocals, fiery fiddle tunes, and rollicking button accordion will have your spirit soaring and your toes tapping, while you sing along with songs that stretch back for centuries… Not only will there be love songs from Scotland, Ireland and other Celtic nations, but OCEAN will perform bandleader Jennifer Cutting’s award-winning original songs such as “Sands of Time,” which celebrates the enduring bonds of love across time and space. Interspersed with songs and tunes, there will be dramatic readings of Celtic love poetry from the Middle Ages up through the 1800s.

OCEAN’s members are bandleader/multi-instrumentalist Jennifer Cutting (a Washington Area Music Association “Musician of the Year”); mesmerizing vocalist Chris Noyes (formerly of the maritime music group Crab Alley); champion Scottish fiddler Andrew Dodds; and traditional singer / Ph.D. folklorist Stephen Winick.
