Téada, one of Ireland’s leading trad bands since 2001, returns to the US for a St. Patrick’s celebration. In addition, this concert opens with music from GWCC Scholarship winners.
The Greater Washington Ceili Club is proud to sponsor Téada as they return to the US for a St. Patrick's celebration. A traditional band of worldwide renown, Téada is driven by the timeless, expressive force of music inherited from previous generations of musicians. Along with Oisín Mac Diarmada (fiddle), Seán Gavin (uilleann pipes / flute), Patrick Doocey (guitar) and Brian Cunningham (dance), the 2020 US tour features Kerry legend Séamus Begley on vocals and accordion. Séamus is famous for his sharp wit and the beautiful sweetness of his voice.
As a bonus, the concert will be opened by an amazing group of recent GWCC Frankie Kennedy Memorial Scholarship winners. Named in honor of Frankie Kennedy, an Irish musician who contributed much to local Irish culture, GWCC awards a scholarship annually to members of the DC metro area to study/compete in Ireland. Applicants must have qualified for that year's Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, or be enrolled in a recognized instructional program in Ireland. These recent scholarship winners will demonstrate that the future of traditional Irish music is in good hands.
