Update (3/16)- Due to the CDC guidelines published on 3/15, recommending the cancellation of events of 50 people or more, this event has been CANCELED.
Munit Mesfin performs in a genre-defying way, combining Ethiopian, reggae, and jazz classics with her original songs in a funky, energetic, and soulful performance. She loves getting audiences involved and getting them to sing along in Amharic or English. The sound and energy of her performances is big enough for a festival stage while feeling as intimate as a house concert. This concert, which is part of the Takoma Park Arts cultural series, is free with a $10 suggested donation.
Mesfin is an Ethiopian-American singer-songwriter, cultural organizer, and Wolf Trap Teaching Artist who has been active in the local Ethiopian contemporary music scene for a decade. She has performed in Ethiopia, Egypt, South Africa, Spain, Germany, and the United States. She is now working on her first solo project while performing with a wide array of musicians from across the world in multilingual sets.
