Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 1

Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 1

Presented by Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at Music Center at Strathmore

His first symphonic essay has all the passion and drama of his piano concertos and later symphonies. How mistaken were the work’s initial detractors, whose critical reception sent the young Rachmaninoff into years of depression. James Ehnes is the welcome violinist in Korngold’s lushly romantic concerto.

Marin Alsop, conductor
James Ehnes, violin

Jennifer Higdon: blue cathedral (BSO Premiere)
Korngold: Violin Concerto
John Williams: Theme from Schindler's List
Rachmaninoff: Symphony No. 1
