Join us for this four-part series covering stepping, including its history, tradition, and meaning, plus simple health and fitness. Students learn the core values of stepping: teamwork, commitment and discipline through choreography.

Starting Monday, June 15, classes will be premiered weekly at noon on our Facebook page and YouTube channel. Students can join us for the premiere or watch the replay later to learn at a time that works for them.

RSVP is optional, but encouraged! Those who RSVP 60 minutes or more before each session will receive an email reminder with additional information and links.

Ideal for elementary to high school students. Classes on June 15 and 22 are designed for beginners, and no previous experience is required. Classes on June 29 and July 6 are designed for advanced students with some step experience.

Step Up at Home is a public virtual program inspired by our Step Up East County program, part of Bloom by Strathmore.

About the Instructor
Nneka Onyima is a rising senior at the University of Maryland College Park, where she is double majoring in finance and dance. She is a two-time first place national stepping champion and a teaching artist for Step Afrika!, the first professional dance company devoted to the art of stepping. She has been working with Step Afrika professionally since 2017 and soon after began working for the Step Up East County program in collaboration with Strathmore. Onyima teaches students ages 4–18, including special needs children. She facilitates the core values of stepping, emphasizes fundamental technique, and sets performances for grand stages including Strathmore and the Kennedy Center. She strives to uplift young black women by providing expert training in step performance and educational mentorship with her freelance work for the Girls Learning Circle and other organizations. During her time as a student, she has enjoyed choreographing and performing original work for the American College Dance Association and several undergraduate concerts.
