Virtual Traditional String Workshop with Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas

Virtual Traditional String Workshop with Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas

Presented by Strathmore at Online/Virtual Space

World-class Scottish traditional musicians and teachers Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas welcome intermediate and advanced string players for a fantastic and fun learning experience. In addition to tunes and techniques, this class emphasizes self-expression, the language and subtlety of fiddle music, finding your inner musician, and bringing music to life.

You’ll explore different approaches to rhythm and arrangements on bowed string instruments by considering dance rhythms found in traditional and non-traditional music. You’ll also learn how to make your tune come alive to be a better dance fiddler, as well as how to become a well-rounded member of an ensemble’s rhythm section. Plus, learn techniques new to the string world and develop your sense of groove.

This class will take place on Zoom. Students will be emailed a private Zoom link and password in advance. The class will be recorded and remain available to students for 1 week after the live class.

Please note, registration closes 60 minutes prior to class start time or when the class is full, whichever occurs first. When you have completed your registration, our ticketing system will email you an automated receipt. The Zoom link will be emailed to participants 30 minutes prior to the event. If you do not receive the Zoom link, please check your spam folder or email us at streaming@strathmore.org.
