Fighting Hunger with Empty Bowls

Fighting Hunger with Empty Bowls

Presented by VisArts at VisArts

In an effort to help our neighbors in need, VisArts will once again host Empty Bowls, an international grassroots effort to fight hunger. The premise is simple: VisArts’ instructors, students, and community members will create handmade ceramic bowls for purchase with the entire price of the bowl going to support feeding programs in our area. This year, VisArts is excited to be collaborating with The Bullis School and its ceramics instructor, Alice Shih-Kahn. Her students will be creating special hand-built ceramic bowls for the event. We welcome their contribution to this community effort to provide our residents access to sufficient and nutritious food in a dignified and respectful manner.

This year, all proceeds will support Manna, a local food bank, and KIND (Kids in Need Distributors), a local organization providing grocery cards to children in 26 Montgomery County schools to purchase food.

Due to safety and health concerns, we cannot serve food at this year’s event. However, the spirit of Empty Bowls and its mission lives on in each bowl purchased. Help make our community stronger and support VisArts as we work to transform and build our community through art.

Timed tickets – All participants must be masked at all times and gloves will be provided for those who want to wear them. In exchange for the ticket cost, guests keep a bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world.
