Amplify US: Transition in Power/Healing through the Arts

Presented by Story Tapestries at Online/Virtual Space

Join Story Tapestries for Friday Night Fun as we unpack the power of poetry and prose as we look for worldly transitions through the creative transformations. Amplify US! is Free to all, but registration is kindly requested.

While racial equity has been a focus of Story Tapestries since our inception in 2010, it became a true pillar of the organization with the grassroots creation of the Amplify US! Initiative in 2017. Born out of a response to Montgomery County Police reporting a dramatic increase in race-driven bias incidents, Amplify US! began as a Task Force and now represents a collaborative of artists, activists and community members who are dedicated to using the arts as a means to combat racism and bias. By amplifying the stories of individuals and sharing multiple means of expression, we create possibilities for deeper understanding and feelings of connection that dissolve the hate and anger that often drive bias incidents. Through the initiative’s workshops and performances, we dialogue with community activists, politicians and families who candidly, in a brave space, share their stories through theatre, improvisation, music, visual art, movement and spoken word poetry.

This program is funded in part by the Maryland State Arts Council and the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County.
