Winter Concert from this community-based orchestra of more than 50 musicians

The Washington Balalaika Society Orchestra will highlight the theme of winter and WBS Conductor and Artistic Director Svetlana Nikonova will conduct her arrangements of classical and folk favorites, including selections from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite.”
We are thrilled to introduce balalaika virtuoso Elina Karokhina to our Washington-area audience. She will perform several solos with the orchestra. Elina graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in Saint Petersburg, as did Svetlana Nikonova. Elina has toured around the world as a balalaika soloist and became musical director and soloist in the "Barynya" ensemble based in New York.
WBS' own domra virtuoso Peter Omelchenko also will dazzle you with solos in a piece from Rimsky-Korsakov's opera "Snowmaiden" and Rossini’s “William Tell Overture.”
