With fate knocking in those legendary opening four notes, the BSO initiates its season-long exploration of Beethoven with the heroic Symphony No. 5. Rising star Julia Bullock opens the program with Villa-Lobos’ haunting and lyrical Brazilian twist on Bach, and the orchestra’s dear friend Jean-Yves Thibaudet dazzles with Gershwin’s jazzy, bluesy piano concerto.
