A mega-concert of folk music super stars to honor the life and legacy of a “folk angel”
Reba and her husband Vic were more than “ultimate folk music fans”. For decades, they attended concerts and festivals across the nation, supporting artists with their energy as well as financially, earning them the affectionate title of “folk angels”. After Vic’s passing in 2009, Reba remained a respected and beloved figure in the folk community. Her generosity in things both tangible and intangible was career changing for many artists, especially those early in their careers.
FocusMusic, along with its co-sponsors the Songwriters' Association of Washington, Uptown Concerts and the World Folk Music Association, has organized a Tribute Show which will occur on March 19, 2022 at the Olney Theater in Olney, MD. Fourteen acts will be there to celebrate Reba: Stephanie Corby, Ronny Cox, Terry Gonda and Kirsti Reeve, Lara Herscovitch, The Kennedys, Kate McDonnell, Dan Navarro, Tom Prasada Rao, Jenny Reynolds, SONiA disappear fear, LisaBeth Weber, Annie Wenz and Jack Williams. Several additional folks who couldn't be there will be sending videos, including Michael Bowers & Siobhan Quinn, Christine Lavin and John McCutcheon.
In addition, FocusMusic is starting what we plan will be an annual Rising Artist Award. This award will recognize and support a rising individual or group in the folk community. Eligibility includes performers that have one initial release and have not previously won or placed in a national music competition. The winner will be invited to perform at the Reba Heyman Tribute Concert and receive a $1000 award to be used towards an upcoming recording with a planned release within one year of the concert.
Tickets are $25 in advance ($25 at the door to members, $35 at the door to non-members, day-of pricing for virtual ticket $35) and include a video of the event which can either be viewed live if you're not feeling comfortable being at an in-person show or watched in post to relive the show!
