A Dance Yaatra or Journey to give you a glimpse into the world of India Classical dance styles. Indian dance styles date back centuries and is steeped in mythology, history, religion, spirituality and rigorous artistic training. Each region of India spawned a different type of dance style to reflect the region’s culture, language and clothing. As exciting as the dance journey so is the story of its origin and how it changed to invading rulers as well as colonization. What we see being performed in current times is a style that is ancient yet contemporary to suit the sensibilities of today! Come see this artform by local performers bringing this rich cultural tradition to Rockville and Montgomery County.

IDEA is an organization based in the community, serving the community, and enhancing the community. Through our programs, we bring a greater awareness of the unique artistic gifts brought to America’s great cultural tapestry by dancers from India.
