Evolución Flamenco

Evolución Flamenco

Presented by Institute of Musical Traditions at Roda

The Institute of Musical Traditions was fortunate enough to meet Ela Razon over the course of COVID, and being able to present her, Francisco "Yiyi" Orozco and their fellow musicians and stunning movements was one of the silver linings of the pandemic. We're excited to be able to partner with them again!

“His powerful, bone-chilling voice and incredibly fast hands riveted the audience. Yiyi’s playing
and singing were nothing short of electrifying.”

Launch of SonDeBaril with new show “Evolución” on September 16 & 17, 2022
SonDeBaril arose out of the elements that drew dancer and choreographer Ela Razon and singer
and percussionist Francisco “Yiyi” Orozco together: the rhythms, sound, and movement of the
age-old yet constantly evolving art form of flamenco. It is the space in which music and dance
are merged, creating an opening where a multitude of raw emotions are invited and allowed.
Their new show, “Evolución”, will premiere at Roda Studio in Takoma Park, Maryland with special
guest artists Ricardo Marlow, Edwin Aparicio, and Anna Menendez.
Ela and Yiyi created “Evolución” in collaboration with guitarist Ricardo Marlow, dancers Edwin
Aparicio and Anna Menendez with support from the Maryland State Arts Council and additional
support from the Institute of Musical Traditions.
From SonDeBaril: “‘Evolución’ came out of our depths. It is about continuance, a tribute to our
ancestors, and living THIS MOMENT. We hope you will join us.”
See “Evolución" on September 16 & 17 and join the launch of SonDeBaril. This is a show not to
miss. There will be an informal artist-audience reception after each performance.
