One of North America’s largest and longest-running showcases of Latin American cinema. With the inclusion of films from Spain and Portugal, the festival celebrates Ibero-American cultural connections during National Hispanic Heritage Month.
Highlights from this year's slate of 20 early announcements include Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner UTAMA from Bolivian filmmaker Alejandro Loayza Grisi; Cannes-premiered MY IMAGINARY COUNTRY, the latest from celebrated Chilean documentarian Patricio Guzmán (THE CORDILLERA OF DREAMS); Mexican filmmaker Natalia López Gallardo's acclaimed debut ROBE OF GEMS, winner of the Silver Bear Jury Prize at this year's Berlin Film Festival; Dominican filmmaker José María Cabral's (HOTEL COPPELIA, WOODPECKERS) searing historical drama PARSLEY, winner of the Audience Feature Film Award at this year's Miami Film Festival; Argentine director Leonardo Brzezicki's self-discovery drama WANDERING HEART, featuring an award-winning performance by Leonardo Sbaraglia (PAIN AND GLORY, WILD TALES); Tribeca prize-winning feminist body horror HUESERA from Mexican director Michelle Garza Cervera; and buzzy Sundance favorites THE COW WHO SANG A SONG INTO THE FUTURE from Chilean filmmaker Francisca Alegría and MIJA, a Disney original documentary from Mexican American filmmaker Isabel Castro.
