Celebrate Gaithersburg’s long and storied history with the railroad. View model train displays, explore a caboose and RDC, participate in train-related activities, and discover the hands-on learning centers in the museum. With any luck visitors can also enjoy the sights and sounds of the actual CSX and Amtrak trains that frequently rumble past the museum.

• A G-scale, live steam locomotive powered trains with Local Locos Live Steamers. Learn how steam engines work.

• Climb into the 1918 steam engine (not ADA accessible). This is the only day the steam engine is open in 2019. Anyone boarding the engine under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

• Make a train craft
