Learn about imaginary creatures from around the world, and create your own in this 2-day workshop led by sculptor and mixed-media artist Kelsey Joyce!
Inspired by "alebrijes," imaginary creatures created by the artist Pedro Linares Lopez, explore an array of mixed media materials including metal armature wire, clay, aluminum foil, Papier-mâché, and more. Learn how how color choice and imagery affects the viewer, the cultural importance of Linares’ alebrijes, and how they have become a tradition in Mexico.
Throughout the two sessions, you will create a 2D design of your imaginary creature and learn sculpting skills that will allow you to bring your creation to life as a three-dimensional sculpture!
All materials provided. No prior art experience is necessary.
