WondeRoom: Paper Silhouette Portraits

WondeRoom: Paper Silhouette Portraits

Presented by Sandy Spring Museum at Sandy Spring Museum

In this workshop, children and their adult companions will learn the history of papercutting and silhouettes practiced around the world and create a one-of-a-kind portrait. Artist Janelle Washington will share the basics behind tracing and creating your own portrait. Then, you will paint or draw a colorful background that represents you.

Each participant should bring a side 8 x 10 profile copy of a photo of themselves or a family member. We will use your photo to trace and cut a silhouette. If you do not have a side 8 x 10 profile, please bring a printed, side profile photo of yourself or a family member, which we will help you to resize.

The WondeRoom is a dedicated space for intergenerational, innovative, family-friendly cultural heritage activities. WondeRoom activities are made by and for all people, inclusive of race, culture, citizenship, community, religion, or gender. WondeRoom activities are designed for intergenerational collaboration. Children (designed for ages 4-9) and their accompanying grown-ups work together. Explore and learn about the vibrant and fun traditions of the region.
