Paper Lotus Lantern Workshop

Paper Lotus Lantern Workshop

Presented by Sandy Spring Museum at Sandy Spring Museum

Exhibiting artist Sookkyung Park will lead participants in creating small lamps inspired by the lotus flower. Participants will explore the cultural and historical significance of the lotus, while learning craft skills that combine creativity and functionality. Attendees will create their own lotus lamps, symbolizing purity and enlightenment. This experience offers a creative and therapeutic activity, providing a time for personal reflection.

Sookkyung Park, born in South Korea and now living in Maryland, transitioned from leading an Arts & Crafts studio for 25 years to pursuing a B.A. in Studio Arts in the U.S., culminating in an MFA from Towson University in 2023, with her work receiving international recognition, including first prize in the 2023 \"Paper Made\" competition and the CAGO Best Award.

See Sookkyung’s work in the exhibit A Paean to Paper at Sandy Spring Museum April 28-July 24th.
