Short Story I (8 sessions)

Short Story I (8 sessions)

Presented by The Writer's Center at The Writer's Center

Designed to familiarize the aspiring short story writer with 'what it takes' to produce a fully realized short story, this workshop focuses on how the fundamental elements of good fiction intertwine to create short stories. Part of each session will be devoted to exploring fundamentals such as setting, plot, and characterization through roundtable discussions of classic short stories. Participants will be required to read and write at home to prepare for each session. We will review and critique any stories participants would like to submit for review, but the emphasis is not on workshopping participants stories but rather in gaining insight into what works and what doesn't in short stories. Individual objectives are to gain understanding of what makes a story succeed and the completion of a first draft of a new story. Please come with an empty journal, a pen and an open mind.
