Skywatch: Perseids Meteor Shower

Skywatch: Perseids Meteor Shower

Presented by Gaithersburg Community Museum at Observatory Park

The Perseids is one of the best meteor showers to observe, producing up to 60 visible meteors per hour at its peak. The historic Latitude Observatory is a great place to observe this annual light show.

All Observatory events may be cancelled at the last minute if conditions are not conducive to stargazing. Cloudy skies as well as inclement weather may cause cancellation. Please check the facebook page for updates. No alcohol is permitted at events in City parks. No white light flashlights will be permitted. Please use red lights. Red wrap may be provided for visitors to use.

Parking: Handicapped parking is at the park while other parking is available at St. Martin’s lot at the corner of DeSellum and Route 355 (2 blocks away)

Facilities: Observatory Park does not have restroom facilities.

Additional skywatch programs may be held depending on weather and staffing. We are also open to adding dates depending on public interest so please let us know. Check facebook for last minute skywatch program announcements
