Aspiring 8- to 12-year-old writers will develop the skills to help get their stories out of their heads and onto paper. Designed to be fast-moving and collaborative, this hands-on workshop will use story prompts, brain-storming sessions, and even speed rounds to take away the inhibition many tweens feel about writing and allow them to craft the stories, anecdotes, poems and narratives that mean something to them. Whether the tween loves to write or has problems producing even 100 words, this workshop will aim to reduce anxiety about getting it right and switch the focus to getting it out. By the end of the workshop, tweens will have an arsenal of techniques they can use to start the writing process, making every writing project—from personal stories to research papers–easier and more enjoyable.
