Sandy Spring, MD — Photographer Larry Marc Levine captures the extraordinary in the ordinary life of creative people at work. Over thirty portraits depicting artists and other professionals pursuing their passions will be on exhibit from September 5 – November 24, 2019 at Sandy Spring Museum.

A fascination with the creative process and watching people in their creative element inspired Mr. Levine to document their work. He interviewed and photographed dozens of individuals with vastly different skills including artists, dancers, and musicians. Realizing that creativity goes beyond traditional visual and performing artists, he expanded the project to include bakers, chocolate makers, tree climbers and many others. “Everyone I photographed is from the Washington, DC Metro area, contradicting the notion that DC is inhabited only by lobbyists and bureaucrats!” says Levine, who believes that respect for the individual and appreciation for the diversity of people, ideas, and processes are all important aspects of his photography.

A reception on Sunday, September 15 will feature demonstrations by six individuals whose portraits will be on exhibit including musicians Karen Buglass (dulcimer) and Alyssa Centanni (violin); jewelry maker Bobbi Premack Gorban; violin maker David Rapkievian; fabric artist Shirley Waxman; and graffitist Herberth Romero.

About the Artist: Larry Marc Levine worked as a staff photographer for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority in Washington, DC for over 35 years. His photographs have documented all phases of growth and operations for the metro transit system and have been displayed in presentations, digital, and print publications, calendars, marketing materials, annual reports, websites, and other wall art.

Sandy Spring Museum supports community-driven cultural arts and educational programs. We gather community to build a sense of place and belonging.
