After the sale of our former building in Silver Spring, MD last Fall, Washington Revels was fortunate to land in temporary quarters at historic Glen Echo Park in Glen Echo, MD.

Since October 2020, our on-site staff has enjoyed a view of the beautiful Dentzel Carousel from the 3rd-floor classroom that became our office. Glen Echo has been a lovely place to create remote revelry. And, far surpassing our expectations as temporary tenants, we were delighted to partner with the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture (GEPPAC) to produce virtual events in the Park, such as our “Celebration of Spring!” filmed in May.

Now we are thrilled to announce that more collaborations with GEPPAC are on the horizon. This August, Washington Revels moves into dedicated office space within the Park! With a conference area, kitchenette, and individual offices, our new suite has room for large meetings, group collaboration, and even small rehearsals. We will occupy this space for two years, providing stability as Revels emerges from the pandemic.

In addition to our new office, we look forward to partnering with GEPPAC to create public programming on the grounds of Glen Echo, and our GEPPAC colleagues have been nothing but encouraging as we explore the possibilities for revelry. Already this July, our Gallery Voices ensemble met at the Park for its first in-person rehearsal since the pandemic began (watch a video from that rehearsal here), and we can’t wait for more opportunities for vaccinated singers to gather in the weeks ahead. We imagine the Glen Echo campus as a hub where we can produce year-round revelry of all sizes, from youth classes, to concerts, to sprawling festivals — all in one place.

To fully devote Washington Revels’ talents and resources to revelry in our new home, we’ve also made some changes to existing programs. The monthly Community Sings, monthly Silver Spring Dances, and Jump Start for the Arts “Family Fun Night Out,” which we co-produced and co-sponsored with our friends at Carpe Diem Arts, will continue under Carpe Diem’s full management. We have valued our many years of partnership with Carpe Diem Arts and are very proud of the legacy of participatory offerings that our two organizations created together for Silver Spring, Takoma DC, and the surrounding area. We are also excited to remain theme-week partners in the Daily Antidote of Song, which continues in Carpe Diem’s capable hands — and as we find our footing at Glen Echo, we look forward to new collaborations with Carpe Diem and with many other artists and organizations!

More details about our new office location, as well as upcoming in-person programming, will be released after we complete our move and settle in.

We can’t wait to share and celebrate our new home with everyone in the Revels community! Be sure to join our e-newsletter to receive updates as they are announced.
