Submission period: April 25-May 23, 2022
The Fairland and Briggs Chaney Master Plan team invites aspiring and professional artists to submit a photo that captures the true essence of the local community. Submitted photos may be included in the actual master plan document, for marketing, and in promotions leading up to final adoption of the master plan by the Planning Board and Montgomery County Council.

There are five dominant languages spoken (Amharic, Spanish, Vietnamese, French and English) in the study area of the Master Plan. Although 40% of residents speak English as a second language at home, 28% of residents speak English less than “very well.” The Fairland and Briggs Chaney Master Plan team wishes to engage the community by using photography to help bridge language barriers and encourage diverse perspectives to participate in this planning. By holding this photo contest for the community, we hope to breakdown cultural barriers and provide a unique opportunity to incorporate photos of the community (with active people) into the Master Plan document.

Contest Basics

Submitted photos should be taken in the study area and proposed master plan boundary. All images must be taken within the last 3 years and have been captured in a public place and include at least one person.

Submitted photos should be clearly focused on the subject matter while capturing the quality of everyday moments in extraordinary ways. These photos will be used in the Fairland and Briggs Chaney Master Plan to help tell a comprehensive story of what it’s like to live, work, and play within this community. Offensive images of any kind will not be tolerated or accepted.

A photographer may submit only one photo in each of the categories listed below, no more than three photos per participant.

Categories
A panel of judges will review all submissions per the categories listed below.
