Gallery B welcomes The Black Art Today Foundation for the first time, exhibiting their latest show, “Black Art: In the Presence of LIGHT.” Inspired by the documentary, Black Art: In the Absence of Light. This exhibit answers the challenging question to all Black and African American artists, “Are you willing to make [art] in the absence of light?” The foundation’s 27 member artists collectively respond that their work is LIGHT. The artwork will be exhibited from May 5 – May 28, 2023 with an opening reception on Sunday, May 7th from 2pm -5pm. Gallery hours for the show will be Friday – Saturday, 12-7pm, and Sundays, 11-6pm. Gallery B is located at 7700 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite E, Bethesda, MD.

The Black Art Today Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Public Charity. They aim to support visual, performing, and literary artists. Their purpose is derived from Kwanzaa’s sixth Principle, Kuumba, meaning Creativity. “Kuumba” is the commitment to being creative within the context of the national community vocation of restoring our people to their traditional greatness and thus leaving our community more beneficial and beautiful than we inherited it. The principle has both a social and spiritual dimension and is deeply rooted in social and sacred teachings of African societies.”

The Black Art Today Foundation supplies various services and opportunities for artists and art organizations to aid artists in reaching their creative potential. Their services supply artist management, collection curator, grants and scholarships, group and solo exhibitions, marketing, merchandising, and mentor protégé programs. “Black Art: In the Presence of LIGHT” is partially funded by the Maryland State Arts Council.
