Peace Mountain Theatre Company (PMTC), a small intimate professional theatre company, serves Montgomery County and the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. PMTC’s mission is to produce quality theatrical productions and educational programs that entertain the senses, engage the mind and touch the heart. We are a theatre with a purpose. PMTC’s theatrical productions address subjects and explore issues that are important to the community and help raise audience awareness. Our Educational Outreach Programs use the talents of our actors, through interaction with the audience, and the theatrical medium, to address relevant and important societal issues in a unique and stimulating manner.

PMTC has produced quality major American plays since 2014, including among others, Arthur Miller’s Tony Award winning play, All My Sons, Neil Simon’s Pulitzer Prize winning play Lost in Yonkers, and Edward Albee’s Pulitzer Prize winning play, A Delicate Balance. Our audiences have been loyal and have grown over the years. The average attendance at our last show was 105 per performance. Since its beginning, PMTC has produced one play each year at Congregation Har Shalom in Potomac, Maryland.  The 2019-2020 Season includes three plays, including Jon Robin Baitz Pulitzer finalist play, Other Desert Cities in December 2019, Alfred Uhry’s Pulitzer Prize winning play Driving Miss Daisy in May 2020 and Ayad Akhtar’s Pulitzer Prize winning play, Disgraced, in December 2020. Due to facility needs, PMTC will present its last show at Har Shalom in December 2019. Starting in May 2020, PMTC will present its productions at The Writer’s Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The Writer’s Center, located in downtown Bethesda, a half block from Wisconsin Avenue and across the street from public parking, is an eight-minute walk from the METRO station. PMTC will use the Writer’s Center’s 165 stadium seat theatre for our productions. We expect the location, parking, METRO access and greater theatre amenities, to increase the quality of our productions and to further grow our audience.

Our Educational Outreach Programs have addressed important issues, such as, Bullying, The Opioid Crisis, Immigration and Cyber Risk To Our Children, since 2017.  Our approach has been to present a one act play focusing on the subject. This is followed by a panel of experts, who discuss the subject and answer questions from the audience.  We have extended this concept to our plays. Our most recent play, A Shayna Maidel, was about immigration and integration into the American culture. Following one of the performances, we a had panel discussion by immigration lawyers, who addressed the current immigration situation. Our programs are followed on our website with resource information and blogs. Our programs have been well received. As a result, PMTC has been asked to present a special showing of Cyber Risk at the Montgomery County Parent Teacher Association Council at its October, 2019 meeting.  

PMTC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. We are a non-union professional theatre company. As such, we ensure the quality of our productions by paying our casts and technical staff. We fund our programs through ticket sales, program ads, contributions, fundraising and grants. Our fundraising arm, Friends of PMTC, is a multi-level annual membership program that provides a means for those who appreciate theatre generally, and Peace Mountain Theatre Company specifically, to demonstrate that support through financial commitments at various levels, with benefits commensurate with the chosen level. PMTC is supported in part by a grant from the Montgomery County Government and the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County. We welcome corporate sponsorships and partnerships.
