Sandy Spring Museum’s first Route 108 Fall Music Festival will feature a day of music, beer and wine, workshops and food, all designed to put the spotlight on the museum’s role as a gathering spot for local entertainers, artists and businesses. The event will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 8.

Allison Weiss, executive director, said the museum has wanted to feature a fall event that rivals the success of the annual Strawberry Festival held each June. “We looked at different models with a hyper-local focus, featuring artists, wineries, breweries and food trucks,” she said. “We are very excited to be doing something on this scale.”

The event will feature six hours of continuous music by four jazz and bluegrass bands: Avril Smith & Friends with Special Guest Rickie Simpkins, Nasar Abadey, Darol Anger & The Republic of Strings, and Paul Bollenback Organ Extravaganza. When they are not performing, the musicians will host workshops inside the museum.

Complementing the musical lineup will be some of the area’s craft beers and local wines, offering guests free tastings at each booth. Participants will include Antietam Brewery, Brookeville Beer Farm, Gordon Biersch, RavenBeer, Smoketown Brewing Station, BGR Winery, Knob Hall Winery, Fridays Creek Winery, Bodegas Gonzalez Ruggiero Winery, Great Shoals Winery, Olney Winery and Urban Winery. Experts will also offer workshops for beer aficionados. Artisans, craft vendors and food trucks also will be featured.
