As we transition from summer to fall, Montgomery County will play host to gatherings that celebrate the temperate season with music, film, food and children’s activities. Here are a few festivals to frequent in the next couple of weeks.
Annual Children’s Day Festival

Montgomery Parks presents an active and engaged experience in the park featuring children’s games, crafts and education as well as live music and food trucks.

Montgomery Parks at Brookside and the Maryland State Beekeepers Association celebrate honeybees and other pollinators. Talk to beekeepers, watch honey being harvested, buy local honey and bee products, and enjoy family-friendly activities and crafts.
22nd Annual MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival
*Two locations, two dates

Audiences in more than 400 cities on six continents will view and judge the 10 finalist short films of all genres, each about 20 minutes or less. All will be eligible for Oscar nominations.
Films include: “Nefta Football Club” (France), “Debris” (USA), “Driving Lessons” (Iran), “Tipped” (Canada), “Sylvia” (United Kingdom), “The Match” (Finland), “This Time Away” (United Kingdom), “Malou” (Germany), “A Family Affair” (United Kingdom) and “At The End Of The World” (USA).

As some films may contain mature themes and content, the event is appropriate for ages 13 and older

Location: Norfolk, St. Elmo, Cordell, Del Ray and Auburn avenues in downtown Bethesda’s Woodmont Triangle (three blocks from Bethesda Metro Station)
Admission: Free. Taste tickets are $5 for four tickets and a serving costs one to four tickets.
Parking: Free parking is available in downtown Bethesda’s public garages. The free Bethesda Circulator will transport visitors to and from the Bethesda Metro station and public garages.

Produced by the Bethesda Urban Partnership, downtown Bethesda’s food and music festival celebrates 30 years of diverse and delectable cuisine offered by local restaurants plus five stages of entertainment and a children’s area with art and craft activities, balloons and face painting.

Bands will include: 8 Ohms, Caz Gardiner, Chopteeth, Heather Aubrey Lloyd (2019 Bernard/Ebb Songwriting Awards winner), Mary-El, Moonshine Society, Sweetnova and Patrick Alban. The cultural music and dance stage will present Dynamic Dance Team, Furia Flamenca, Rhythmaya Dance, Soul in Motion and Tepua Hio Hio.

Learn how Montgomery County’s farms and communities work together. Interact with living historians in historic costume, hand-on farm skill activities like tin-smithing, making apple butter, paint pumpkins, build scarecrow, farm equipment exhibits and demonstrations, heritage farm animals, food, crafters, hayrides, tours of the historic Magruder-Bussard Farmstead. Live music by The Ken Kolodner Trio, storytelling by Twinbrook of the Dogwood 4-H Club.
2nd Annual Heritage Harvest Festival
Date/Time: 10 AM – 5 PM, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5 & 6

Celebrate autumn and the harvest by exploring 14 sites — farms and farm markets, wineries and vineyards, a living history farm, lavender farm, artisan brewery, artists’ studios, historic farm buildings. Family activities will include farm tours, markets with local produce, live music, crafts, farm animals, wine tastings and food for sale.
