InterAct Story Theatre leaps in a single bound onto the stage of the Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center in Silver Spring, bringing kids and families a dynamic superhero play about teamwork, friendship, and the perils of trying to be the hero of EVERYTHING.

The Hero of EVERYTHING, written and directed by InterAct’s Artistic Director Ali Oliver-Krueger, explores the importance of teamwork and the perils of trying to do everything yourself. The audience joins in to become part of the action as superheroes saving the day in Citytown City. Hero originally premiered as a touring production in 2015, and this year seemed to be a perfect time to welcome back one of InterAct Story Theatre’s most popular plays. “Kids have been weathering so much isolation and uncertainty during the pandemic,” said Ms. Oliver-Krueger, “We think not only is this a great time for a superhero play, it’s an opportunity to share with kids that you don’t have to go it alone, that we’re all in it together.”

This action-packed interactive play is performed by three actors on stage and a whole team of superheroes in the audience…Who needs a sidekick or a team when you can do everything yourself, and do it just the way it should be? Captain Everything loves saving the day and doesn’t need anyone’s help to do it. Sure, she has an Amazing Alliance of Superheroes, but no one minds if she just handles everything herself. Or do they? What happens when everyone else gets tired of being left out of everything and quits? And what happens when Captain Everything faces something she can’t do? Can she face her fears and cooperate with her team to save Citytown City? Or will it be too late? Best for ages 5 & up.

After the show, the actors return to the stage with opportunities for autographs and photographs with the kids and families in the audience. Parents come away with activities in the playbill they can use to explore the ideas in the play. Kids come away with an amazing superhero adventure, and an invitation to create adventures of their own to share. This play offers children the opportunity to explore the Social Emotional Learning competencies of Social Awareness, Responsible Decision Making, and Relationship Skills as well as the Character Education pillars of Fairness, Caring and Respect.

The Hero of EVERYTHING will be presented for two weekends at the Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center’s Theatre II (Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, 7995 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, Maryland, 20910) from September 23-October 2, 2022. The performance run includes four special Field Trip Friday performances–two each on Friday, September 23 and Friday, September 30–with free and discount tickets available while supplies last for elementary school, early childhood center, and homeschool audiences. Field Trip Friday performances include a special talkback with the playwright/director and actors, and resource materials for educators and parents.
