A Fossil Record of Our Time

This report is based upon a visual inspection of the ceramic tile mural A Fossil Record of our Time by Jane Larson (2001), performed on May 8, 2019. The assessment described below was performed by Howard Wellman.

The assessment was performed from ground level by visual examination. Conditions were documented with digital photographs. The mural is composed of 10 panels of hand-made tiles, each panel made up of numerous tiles. The ceramic panels are set two each onto five plywood panels, each approximately 2x4feet. The tiles are adhered to the panels with unknown mastic, and grouted with what appears to be a standard brown sanded tile grout. The mural is surrounded by a wooden frame of oak, screwed to a background with wooden button screw covers.

It is located in the main school corridor across from the office. The background of the piece is a tan color and all of the other decorations are in muted blues, greens and yellows.
