June 3, 2021 (Bethesda, MD) – The Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District announced the top three Bethesda Painting Awards prize winners on Wednesday evening during the exhibition’s opening at Gallery B. Megan Lewis of Baltimore, MD was awarded “Best in Show” with $10,000; Amy Boone-McCreesh of Baltimore, MD was named second place and was given $2,000 and Marybeth Chew of Baltimore, MD received third place and was awarded $1,000.
Megan Lewis is a professional multidisciplinary illustrator, born and raised in Baltimore, MD. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from Ringling College of Art and Design. Lewis is a well-regarded member of a thriving art community in Baltimore best known for her Blk Women Period LLC series and other interactive murals throughout the region. She has participated in collaborations with the Baltimore Orioles, Doritos, Target, HBO Max and the US Open. Megan’s work focuses on figurative imagery with a purpose to disconnect her imagination from what society expects her to articulate. She uses her artwork as a vehicle to express personal joys, frustrations and prideful moments in black culture through the lens of an evolving Black Woman. Her exhibitions include Lewis Museum, Eubie Blake, Notre Dame of Maryland University and Creative Alliance.

The exhibit will be on display June. 3 – 26, 2021 at Gallery B, located at 7700 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite E. Gallery hours for the duration of the exhibit will be Thursday-Saturday, 12 – 5pm.
The competition’s jurors consisted of Emily Conover, Painting and Drawing Teacher, University of Maryland; John Lee, Assistant Professor of Painting, College of William and Mary; and Katherine Mann, Artist, Best in Show Winner of the Bethesda Painting Awards 2017.
