Celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Big Apple Circus, where you can "ooh!" and "ahh!" at some of the world's most celebrated circus acts in the most intimate setting. You'll be sitting ringside with your eyes trained on the skies as 10-time world record holder Nik Wallenda launches into his signature daring feats. Hailed as "The King of the High Wire," he'll lead his Fabulous Wallendas through unforgettable aerial stunts like the seven-man pyramid. Trapeze artists will leave you gulping and clowns will keep you laughing when this Big Top bonanza comes to the Washington, D.C. area. Like seeing real-life superheroes in action, Big Apple Circus' latest show brings together some of the world's top circus acts and sets them lose in an intimate one-ring setting. What in the world could the impossible-sounding horizontal juggling be? Find out when Victor Moiseev debuts the dazzling feat for American audiences at National Harbor. What would it look like if Superman and Wonder Woman danced? Maybe something like the poetic aerial choreography of Desire in Flight. Is it possible for a person to pull off four somersaults midair "and" time it so perfectly that another guy dangling upside down on a swing can catch him? Just watch the Flying Tunizianis. Throw in beautiful horses, trick-performing dogs and hilarious clowns, and you've got one jaw-dropping, fun-filled show for the whole family. [less-]

Find out what's really in the mind of Mencia when popular comedian and entertainer Carlos Mencia performs at Arlington Cinema 'N' Drafthouse. His hit Comedy Central series was one of the highest rated programs on the channel, second only to "South Park". He's had his own TV specials and was featured in a Super Bowl commercial for Bud Light. His career has seen its share of ups and downs, and he's emerged from it all a leaner (but not meaner) entertainer. Undoubtedly one of today's most popular entertainers and comics, Mencia demonstrates an extraordinary ability to connect with a wide and diverse audience, whether it's man-on-the-street interviews, studio comedy, commercial parodies, nationwide sold-out tours or films. "Xuanzang's Pilgrimage", China's first traditional concert drama performed by the China National Traditional Orchestra, comes to The Kennedy Center Opera House in D.C. The piece tells the true-life story of the Buddhist monk Xuanzang (602-664), who travelled the length of the Silk Road across China on a 17-year pilgrimage to India. Xuanzang documented his experiences of the differences within Buddhism that he encountered along the way. His 17-year journey was driven by his desire to discover religious texts that had not yet come from India to China. His story is brought to life with an 80-piece traditional Chinese orchestra, 24 performers and strikingly elaborate costumes. "Xuanzang's Pilgrimage" is part of Image China, a high-level cultural exchange program presented by China Arts and Entertainment Group that introduces traditional and contemporary Chinese performing arts to audiences around the world. Still head-banging on Broadway, "School of Rock" is ready to raise the roof at The National Theatre in DC. This "New York Times" Critics' Pick was adapted from the 2003 film that launched Jack Black as a full-blown star, and just happens to feature 14 new songs from the King of the Musical, none other than Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. All the original tunes from the film are included too, and "Entertainment Weekly" called this stage version "an inspiring jolt of energy, joy and mad skillz." The show follows Dewey Finn, who was kicked out of his band and is struggling to make ends meet when he finds himself in the most unlikely of jobs -- teaching at a prestigious prep school. When he discovers his students' talent for classical music, he decides to steer them over to rock 'n' roll, turning this class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, mind-blowing, kick-ass band. Awesomeness ensues. [less-]
