Celebrate Maya Angelou as both poet and streetcar conductor through a creative art and poetry project — all ages welcome!
Did you know one of the most famous poets and activists in the world was once a street car conductor? Maya Angelou, known for her inspiring works such as I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, worked for Market Street Railway Company in San Francisco as one of the first Black people to be employed as crew. At this month’s All Aboard! we’ll honor Maya Angelou and her poetry by creating some transit-themed poems of our own. Try your hand at collage and blackout poetry with a transportation
