Growing Edible Mushrooms

Learn the art of cultivating edible mushrooms with Tom Mulczynski of Montgomery County Master Gardeners (MCMG)! In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn all about mushrooms from their biology to their life cycle, and general tips for growing your own mushrooms at home. You’ll take a deeper dive and help plant three mushroom varieties in different ways – shiitake (Lentinula Elodes) in logs, oyster (Pleurotus Ostreatus) in straw, and wine cap stropheria (Stropheria Rugoso-Annulata) in wood mulch. At the end, you’ll take home a bag of straw ready to grow oyster mushrooms. All materials are included in the registration fee.
