Join Pam Heemskerk, Executive Director and Ann Neslen, Associate Artist in Bookbinding for this weeklong, luxurious workshop where you will learn how to make handmade books with your content. Pam and Ann will provide instruction, demonstrations, and lectures on an array of book structures. Our approach is to teach you from start to finish how to design, select materials and to make a book that furthers the narrative content of your work.

You will be introduced to a structure a day, learn how to make a mockup, and have plenty of studio time to work on your own version. Each day will conclude with sharing and discussion of the day’s work.

This is an all levels class. The beginner will have enough support to dive into the book making process. More advanced bookbinders will have the opportunity to experiment with these structures in our studio. All students may bring photographic or other mediums of work (watercolors, poems, drawings, prints) that have a narrative or storyline that is in development. We will be working on editing, sequencing and pacing of these images in the book form. You will be asked to bring this content to class already printed, in multiples and different sizes so you have enough to work with throughout the week.

You will be provided a list of supplies for your own book binding kit to bring to class.

You may bring your own book cloth, papers, and other supplies to make the book your own.
