Spring Semester of Singing at Encore Creativity for Older Adults

Registration is now open for Encore Creativity’s spring semester of 22.5 hours of rehearsal time across roughly 15 weeks, with 90-minute rehearsals once a week. The season will culminate in a crowd-pleasing performance that is free and open to the public. No auditions are required for an Encore program. The Maryland non-profit organization’s guiding mission is to provide a welcoming and accessible artistic environment for all adults 55 and older who seek it, regardless of prior experience. In Montgomery County, Encore will host chorales at Asbury Methodist Village, Washington Conservatory, and Schweinhaut Center. The chorales will meet at Schweinhaut Senior Center in Silver Spring on Mondays from 10:30 AM to 12:15 PM., Asbury Methodist Village on Tuesdays from 1 to 2:30 PM, and Washington Conservatory in Glen Echo on Thursdays from 12:30 to 2 PM.

Founded in 2007 by Jeanne Kelly during an NIH-funded study to address the mental and physical health benefits of singing for older adults, Encore Creativity for Older Adults now has more than 1,000 singers in 30 programs across the nation, including Chorales and ROCKS and Sentimental Journey Singers, a choir for those with early Alzheimer’s or memory impairments and their care partners, plus a vibrant online university, summer camp, winter retreat and travel abroad programs.
