Storytellers Series: Connecting Creatives to the Community. Taina Litwak: The Personal is Political

Taina Litwak will share the story of her art and her acitvism.  She has overwhelming concerns regarding human impact on the planet and has spent the last 40 years documenting biodiversity and science in general, helping taxonomists distinguish between and describe new species and communicate science to the public.  She has worked with Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, the Smithsonian, NIH, the CDC and is now on staff with the Dept. Of Agriculture at the Museum of Natural History in Washington DC.  She has two species of insect named after her.  Her personal art making and arts community involvement have also been a vehicle for her activism regarding women’s place in the world and the state of the biosphere.  She has served as Executive Director of the Washington Women’s Arts Center and both national and local chapter president of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators.  Her current creative work consists of a large series of acrylic paint and newspaper collages dealing with climate change and biodiversity loss.  It was featured in an exhibit “Climate Change News” at Riverworks’ Artist in the House Gallery at Locals in Poolesville, MD in the fall of 2022.

Riverworks’ Storytellers Series: Connecting Creatives to the Community, is a monthly series bringing creatives together with the community in an intimate show-and-share series. It’s designed to introduce people to all kinds of creatives, and an opportunity for makers to talk about and show their work with an emphasis on storytelling. The artists will share their work followed by a Q&A with the audience. They will be held at Riverworks Studio at Alden Farms (19215 Beallsville Rd., Beallsville, MD) the third Thursday of the month from 6-8pm starting March 16, 2023. Free to the public.
