The grass is represented in an abstract way with blocks of blues and greens with varying textures. Most of the children are flying kites, which are painted wood panels that are attached to the cement wall that has been painted blue. The lower portion of the piece including the ground and children is made of painted plaster or ceramic while the capital building, Washington monument, the upper portion of the Lincoln memorial, and the kites are made of painted wood. This lower portion also represents wildlife and different forms of agriculture.
