2024 Girl Power Contest

   

In recognition of March as Women’s History Month, the Montgomery County Commission for Women, Montgomery County Public Libraries and Friends of the Library Montgomery County Inc. are hosting the Seventh Annual “Girl Power Contest” from March 1-31.

County residents ages 5 and up, are encouraged to submit a short story, poem, drawing or entry in the medium of their choice that addresses this year’s theme, “empowering women”.

Submissions can be sent here and participants should focus on this prompt: What business would you create in Montgomery County and what impact would it have on the girls and women in our community?

"As we celebrate Women's History Month, I encourage residents to participate in the Seventh Annual 'Girl Power Contest’ by sharing your ideas for a business that empowers women in our community, said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “You are not just contributing to a competition, but to the fabric of our shared future. I thank the Montgomery County Commission for Women for hosting this project, and to all participants for their creative contributions."

Entries can be submitted online here and are limited to one per person. Written entries should be a maximum of 500 words. Entries should include the participant’s full name, age, grade and school (if applicable), phone number and email address.

Winners will be announced at the end of April and will receive a swag bag and be featured on the Commission for Women’s FacebookInstagram and X.

Entries submitted by anyone under the age of 18 must include written permission from a parent or guardian and be the minor’s own work.
