We’re looking for a writer active in the DC-area literary scene to join The Writer’s Center family as a part-time Customer Service Associate and Social Media Coordinator. If you’re an outgoing, friendly, and organized writer, we’d love to hear from you! This position staffs the front desk on weekends and weekday evenings (as required), as well as some special events. Social media duties can be performed remotely.

Founded in 1976, The Writer’s Center is a literary arts nonprofit headquartered in the Washington DC area, supporting writers and everyone who wants to write. We host hundreds of creative writing workshops every year, present dozens of free literary events, and publish Poet Lore, America’s oldest poetry magazine.

Responsibilities:

  • Customer service (phone, email, and in-person)
  • General administration (processing payments and registrations)
  • Facilities coordination (opening, closing, and general oversight)
  • Social media strategizing, scheduling, and posting
  • Coordinating workshop and event participant surveys
  • Attending literary and community events on behalf of TWC
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred skills:

  • Customer service experience
  • Comfort with computer systems and databases
  • Familiarity with regional and national literary communities
  • Knowledge of the craft of writing, publishing, and literature
