A Naturalist’s Guide for Controlling Invasive Plants

Non-native invasive plants are aggressively growing plants that compete directly with native species for moisture, sunlight, nutrients, and space. They can easily take over native environments.

Betsy Taylor, a Master Gardener and former Naturalist with Montgomery County Parks, will present information on some of the most pervasive non-native plants that are commonly found in many yards and gardens in Montgomery County. She will focus on how they grow and offer various methods to limit their ability to thrive in our yards. She will discuss a little bit of history on a few of the most troublesome invaders, provide tips on how to prevent them invading our property and show us how to recognize these plants as they grow throughout the year. Betsy will prepare us to discourage non-native invasive plants prospering in our yards this coming year.

To help us with preventing the growth of these plants, Betsy has spent the last year taking photos of many of the invasives in various stages of growth.
