WondeRoom: Kolam Stencils

Led by artist Shanthi Chandrasekar, you will work different stencils to learn with the six basic Kolam shapes. Try to match the different Kolam paintings with your own designs.

Kolams are designs that are drawn on the ground in front of houses in the state of Tamil Nadu in India using rice or rock powder. These beautiful patterns made of dots and lines that are mathematical and involve number patterns, geometrical shapes and symmetries. They are a fun way to learn about an ancient tradition that focuses on problem solving, creativity and important life lessons.

WondeRoom activities are made by and for all people, inclusive of race, culture, citizenship, community, religion, or gender. WondeRoom activities are designed for intergenerational collaboration.
